Since 2014, Utah has required that each high school student take a CPR training class in order to graduate. Advanced CPR Training has taught tens of thousands of Utah students during our 20 year history and have designed our class to provide the best instruction and hands-on practice in a timeframe that suits each the needs of each school.
Students
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is a valuable skill that can help individuals respond to medical emergencies, potentially saving lives in the process. Here are some reasons why CPR should be taught in high schools to students:
Learning CPR and other lifesaving techniques can increase students’ preparedness for medical emergencies. In the event of a cardiac arrest or other emergency, trained students can take immediate action to provide assistance, potentially improving survival rates and minimizing harm.
CPR education in high schools can contribute to a healthier community by increasing the number of people who are able to provide basic medical care. When more people are trained in CPR, they are better equipped to respond to medical emergencies in their families, communities, and workplaces.
Learning CPR can provide students with valuable leadership opportunities. Students who become CPR-certified can take on roles as “cardiac recovery coaches” or advocate for CPR training and other lifesaving techniques in their schools and communities.
CPR certification is a requirement for many jobs in the healthcare industry, including nursing, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians. By learning CPR in high school, students can gain a valuable skill that may help them in their future careers.
Coaches
The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) and the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) requires that all individuals employed or acting as coaches meet specific training and certification requirements outlined by the UHSAA and USBE. Ensuring coaches are certified in CPR is an important safety measure for student-athletes and athletic programs for a few reasons:
Coaches are responsible for the safety of their athletes, and being CPR certified can help them respond appropriately in case of a sudden cardiac arrest or other medical emergency. In such cases, immediate medical attention can make a crucial difference in saving lives.
CPR certification equips coaches with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively to medical emergencies. By being trained in CPR, coaches can provide immediate care to their athletes before professional medical help arrives, potentially improving outcomes and reducing the risk of long-term damage.
Coaches serve as role models for their athletes and being certified in CPR can set an example for their students to take their own health and safety seriously. By demonstrating the importance of CPR certification and being prepared for emergencies, coaches can instill a culture of safety and preparedness among their athletes.
Advanced CPR/AED Training is a training program for high school students that is quick and effective training. Over the past 20 years he and his staff have taught CPR/AED to thousands of high school students all over the state. Every year new students come in to my classes wanting to know when the “CPR GUY” is coming because they heard about the training from siblings. Matt’s program is the only CPR training for my classroom I will ever use. I have looked into others and hands down, his program is the most effective, highly skilled program there is. What he is able to cover in 90 minutes is astounding and every student walks away with the knowledge and the ability and confidence to perform lifesaving skills including abdominal thrusts on a child or adult, chest thrust/back blows on a chocking infant and CPR and how to use an AED on an adult/child and infant. Matt’s program should be used in every school across the country.

My experience with Advanced CPR Training has been excellent in every way. Their communication with scheduling has always been very easy and accommodating. All of the instructors deliver the material in a fun and interactive way with great stories that really engage the students. The instruction they give in regard to CPR skills with the mannequins is very detailed and they are very good at coaching the students through the skill portion. I also am always very impressed with the way they manage the classes in terms of the student’s behavior. They make sure all students are paying attention throughout the presentation. Overall, they do excellent job from start to finish, and this is why I always have them come back to my school every semester, every year.
